I also make more money now at my current job than the previous, more creative job. The biggest difference between the two jobs however is that since I basically just do “busy work” at my current job, I find that I’m more motivated to work on self projects/illustration outside of work at home. Occasionally I’ll have the freedom to create my own designs/logos/signs but for the most part I’m using customer supplied logos and artwork 90% of the time. It’s a much less creative job than my previous one - I essentially work in illustrator and photoshop to put together mock-ups for exterior and interior signage. It was a young, fun and creative environment to be in but a lot of the days were very draining as I was constantly pressured to come up with new ad campaigns and in-store product designs which ultimately led me to become burnt out frequently after work.įast forward to now I currently work as a graphic designer for a commercial sign company.
