I came to feel a closeness to Rumi a genuine intimacy that surprised me with its intensity and familiarity. They echoed my own experiences of the Divine in its eroticism and mystery. In time, as my own spiritual journey deepened, I came to understand his words.
It was at times intoxicating, but at other times quite confounding! I could feel but not always mentally understand what he was getting at. From the first moment I read his poems, many, many years ago, I felt as though he was speaking a sacred language that I could understand with my heart rather than my mind.
